Aloha,
SigNATure glamour here! So about a month ago I had to submit my art portfolio for the AP Studio Art exam. I will start by saying it consisted of a lot paint stains and many sketches while trying to figure out what to draw, even if I was already halfway a drawing. For those of you who do not know about the exam it is basically a three part exam that consists of a concentration that is made up of 12 pieces, a breadth piece that is another different 12 pieces, and finally an artist statement. The concentration part could be about anything, I decided to do mine on eating disorders. I decided to pick that topic because I wanted to do a topic I could research and learn more about to be able to gain knowledge on that particular topic. Eating disorders has been a topic that has been around for many years and something that a lot of people around my age struggle with because of the pressure that is created, not just my age group but other people also suffer from eating disorders as well. For my pieces I focused mainly on bulimia, but I did some pieces on eating disorders overall.
The breadth part was 12 pieces of art that displayed a variety of mediums, this was basically 12 of your best pieces that did not come from your concentration. Let me say that trying to put together an artist statement was a bit of a struggle because there was a small word limit and image trying to come up with what to say about a certain topic in a condensed amount. Yikes! That was probably the hardest part, trying to put all the thoughts that were going on in y head about all my pieces into basically a two to three sentence statement. Throughout the entire process of trying to recollect all my ideas and condense them into a specific topic it took tons of patience and staying long hours in the art room. Don’t get me wrong the art room at my high school is very peaceful, which was very soothing through the process. I also learned a lot along the way, whether is was drawing technics or things that I did not think I was capable of in my own work. I just wanted to share this experience because art has been a big part of life ever since I was a little girl. I would also love to draw, there’s a saying that says, “Something’s just don’t change” and that statement certainly applies to this situation. Am I right?
Kiss kiss,
